Here's Why It's Time To Go Solar

GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

If you've been paying attention, you've probably seen this phrase popping up around the VELUX website and in our email newsletters: Go Solar!

But just what is it all about?

Sustainable Living Through Skylights

Since our inception over 70 years ago, VELUX has always been about utilizing the Earth's most abundant natural resource: daylight. In that time, the world has changed, and it's become more important than ever to live sustainably and opt for renewable resources like sunlight and fresh air.

Once installed, VELUX skylights provide a huge step forward for creating green-friendly homes and buildings. According to the US Green Building Council's website, "a green home uses less energy, water, and natural resources; creates less waste; and is healthier for the people living inside." In this way, green homes and buildings stand to positively affect our environment for future generations.

You probably don't need us to tell you that building owners, occupants, and code officials are becoming increasingly sensitive to energy use, both in terms of environmental effectiveness and cost. But with skylights, you're able to offer them a solution that's not only green and cost-effective but stylish and luxurious as well.

What Happens When Your Clients Go Solar

Your clients have the incentive to Go Solar beyond the benefits to the environment. Due to the Emergency Stabilization Act and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, those who purchase and install qualifying products - like our solar-powered skylights and blinds - are eligible for a 30% federal tax credit on all costs, including installation.

VELUX's solar-powered products qualify under Solar Electric Property expenditures and are eligible for the tax credit on products installed through December 31, 2021. These products include our

Make sure that your clients know when they install solar-powered blinds or a Solar Night Light, their skylight or sun tunnel as well as installation is also eligible for the federal tax credit. So, while the federal tax credit is unfortunately not extended to installers, you can increase your sales totals by persuading clients to include blinds or a night light.

Why Now Is The Best Time To Go Solar

Our solar-powered products will always be an environmentally friendly lighting alternative, but now more than ever is the best time to encourage your clients to Go Solar.

Unless they're renewed or amended over the next couple of years, the acts mentioned above only apply to renewable technologies installed between 2009 and 2021 and the credit amount changes during that time:

  • For technologies installed in 2018-2019, a 30% federal tax credit can be applied
  • For technologies installed in 2020, a 26% federal tax credit can be applied
  • For technologies installed in 2021, a 22% federal tax credit can be applied

Needless to say, now really is the best time to incorporate solar technologies into your floor plans!
