Get those paint brushes and rollers ready: HGTV's 2018 Colors of the Year have been announced! With a new year ahead of you, it's the perfect time to take note of what rooms need sprucing up. And thanks to this year's hottest colors, you can easily make dramatic (and relatively inexpensive) upgrades all around the house!
Now just what are the colors that have HGTV, color experts, and the rest of us so excited to start redecorating this year? We're glad you asked!
Ultra Violet
The Pantone 2018 Color of the Year is Ultra Violet! Also known as 18-3838 in Pantone-speak, the deep purple color communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking. This makes it the perfect color to start off your new year as these qualities point us toward the future with more forward thinking.
In your home, Ultra Violet can be both feminine and bold, carrying with it the essence of empowerment that makes it perfect for a girl's bedroom. And with its royal roots, Ultra Violet is an ideal and unexpected statement color for any room, even the kitchen, as it creates a regal, hip, and funky look all in one!
Deep Onyx
Glidden's 2018 Color of the Year is Deep Onyx a.k.a. 00NN 07/000 a.k.a. classic black. While black walls may be a little intimidating at first, when paired with metallic accents and crisp white furniture, they can create a sophisticated, contemporary atmosphere to fit any home. With the right furniture and some bright decorations, a black like Deep Onyx can even be painted on every wall in a bedroom, from floor to ceiling, to create contrast and depth.
Caliente
The radiant, lush Caliente (AF-290) is Benjamin Moore's 2018 Color of the Year and more versatile than you'd expect! Best used as a bold accent color, this bright red can play it safe with neutrals or create a fun, lively room when combined with other bright hues. When paired with white furniture and linens, Caliente helps to create a chic, modern look for any living room.
Red's vibrant energy, especially apparent in Caliente, is said to inspire creativity so this lavish shade can be used to dress up a drab staircase or outfit an otherwise plain gallery wall for a quick and effective makeover.
Oceanside
Sherwin Williams' 2018 Color of the Year, Oceanside (SW 6496), is described by its creators as "a complex, deep color that offers a sense of the familiar with a hint of the unknown" and by HGTV as "the true color of wanderlust." A rich, blue-green shade, Oceanside was inspired by thoughts of adventures in far-off places and dreams of tropical vacations so it is the perfect color to add tropical flair to every space!
Outfitting an entire living room? Dressing up the family bath? This bright blue hue is the perfect color to make a bold, fun statement in any size room. The lively turquoise is also a picture-perfect accent shade; brighten up your home's entryway by painting your front door with Oceanside or use it on some old furniture to create colorful contrasts.
In the Moment
Arguably the calmest 2018 Color of the Year is Behr's In the Moment (T18-15) but that doesn't make this shade any less dynamic than the others! According to color experts, "[In the Moment] evokes a sense of sanctuary and relaxation amid our busy, always-on lives," so this comfortable spruce blue is a great choice for virtually any space.
Paired best with crisp whites and neutrals, In the Moment matches any living room taste, from beachy escape to rustic farmhouse. You can also turn a dingy bedroom into the perfect tranquil hideaway with dark wood furniture, light linens, crisp home accents, and this perfect mix of cool, soft green and calming blue.
