Sun Tunnel Pros You Might Not Have Considered

PRODUCT TIPS

VELUX Sun Tunnels bring natural light into homes through a specially designed tunnel that passes from roof to ceiling and are a simple and cost-effective way to add natural light to small spaces.

But just what is it that makes sun tunnels a better option for some customers than traditional skylights?

Sun Tunnels Are More Versatile Than Traditional Skylights

If we at VELUX had our way, every house would have a skylight in every room! But, of course, that's not always practical. Some rooms don't have space for a full skylight, and some are under a part of the roof that won't support them. In these cases, sun tunnels are a great solution because they fit where full skylights don't and can be installed on any roof pitch.

And They're Just As Easy To Install

Like all of VELUX's products, Sun Tunnel Skylights come packaged with everything you need for installation. Unlike traditional skylights, however, you don't need to worry about constructing a light well, so very little (if any) drywall work is involved. Sun tunnels also require minimal roof cutting, so most can be installed in just a couple of hours.

Sun Tunnels Are More Cost Effective

Based on the price of materials and ease of installation, sun tunnels are often a cheaper daylighting option, so you can provide them to a wider variety of customers. Since they're smaller, they can also be more energy efficient and help homeowners cut down on heating and cooling costs.

And Are Better For Providing Daylight Without Glare Or Heat Gain

Some rooms just don't require as much light as others, but could still use the benefits natural daylight provides. That's where sun tunnels come in! Daylight is collected at the roof opening and reflects down the tunnel into the room below, similar to a spotlight.

Additionally, as we briefly mentioned before, sun tunnels are closed off completely and don't open. In other words, they're better designed to keep the house insulated and keep the heat out during the summer and cold out in the winter.

Sun Tunnels Can Provide Light Anytime With Solar Night Lights

New to the VELUX Sun Tunnel Family is the Solar Night Light! It's a small attachment that sits just on the inside of the bottom of any of our sun tunnels. Its solar panel charges three battery-powered LED lights which illuminate the space below when the sun goes down.
