The homeowner instantly fell in love with the energy of this 1937 colonial-style home. She felt like there were ‘good bones’, but it was dark and needed more light to make it feel cozy. As she also works from home, the designer focused on adding more light to the space. Even though her client was adamantly against them from the start, the designer convinced them that adding skylights to the kitchen was the modern upgrade this home needed. The homeowner is now thrilled daily by the diffused light from the ceiling and the comfort of her work-from-home environment

2. Living Room Skylights for Empty Nesters

 These homeowners wanted to live in a walkable neighborhood, which is what they got when they moved to downtown Greenville, SC. For the builders, crafting a home for these homeowners was incredibly difficult. There was a very small lot. Getting light to the living space in the back of the house was not going to be easy. VELUX skylights turned out to be the perfect solution. They added abundant natural light while still maintaining the privacy the homeowners desired. The architect wanted to recreate the feel and breeze that homeowners would find at the beach. She embraced the modern farmhouse design as she completely demolished an existing home and built a new one in its place. She emphasized sustainability by reusing much of the lumber from the original house. She also added a VELUX vented skylight to the top of the stairs. This allowed the warm air to vent through the roof while drawing cool air in through the windows.
