This newest edition of our skylight parts series is all about the VELUX Manual "Fresh Air" Skylight!

About the Skylight

The VELUX Manual "Fresh Air" Skylight is a simple, straightforward, and stunning as they come. Rather than using electric or solar-powered components, this skylight opens and closes by hand with a smooth turning handle for in-reach applications and a rod for out-of-reach ones. Like our other venting skylights, this one enables any home to embrace the very best of what nature has to offer: daylight and fresh air.

The Different Parts of Your Skylight

Now, for the different parts of your skylight. First things first, your Manual "Fresh Air" Skylight looks like this:

And second things second, this is what those numbers mean:

  1. Clean, Quiet & Safe Glass: The Manual "Fresh Air" Skylight comes standard with our Clean, Quiet & Safe Glass. Made with Neat® glass, a silicon dioxide coating makes it exceptionally smooth so water sheets off and evaporates quickly, greatly reducing water spotting. Since this glass is thicker than other glass types, it also reduces unwanted noise by up to 25% less than standard double pane glass and up to 50% less than a plastic skylight.
  2. Manual Operation: As we mentioned before, this skylight is manually operated by VELUX control rods so there's no need for costly wiring. It also only opens about as far as you see in the picture, so you don't have to worry about anyone falling out of or breaking in through your skylight.
  3. Skylight Frame & Flashing: The Manual "Fresh Air" Skylight qualifies for our No Leak Warranty, thanks to its frame and VELUX flashing. The warranty offers 10 years of protection on installation, plus 20 years on glass, 10 years on product, and 5 years on blinds.
  4. Venting Capabilities: The "Fresh Air" part of the name of this skylight comes from this venting feature, which allows fresh air to flow throw your home. It opens just enough to release the hot air trapped at the top of your ceiling so cooler clean air can flow through.

Each Manual "Fresh Air" Skylight comes equipped with an insect screen to prevent pests from getting into your home. It also comes with a control rod, and additional rods can be purchased from our line of skylight accessories.
