Whether you're building a new home, remodeling, or just looking to make a few changes, utilizing exposed beams on your living room's ceiling is a sure way to create a custom, unique look in your home. Here are a few ideas to inspire you to create the living room with exposed beams that is perfect for your home!
Play with Paint
Painting your exposed beams can bring them out and give them a more prominent place in your living room's design. Whitewashed beams look great with a matching, high-gloss ceiling and an off-white shade on the walls. Or, for a bit of contrast, paint them a dark or primary color to add dimension to your space.
Add Some Steel
Mixing materials is a great way to give your living room a new look. With horizontal beams, try vertical steel uprights and brackets to create a fresh design with two unmistakeable materials. Wooden trusses and beams that have steel hardware create a distinct look to help you show off those structural elements!
Light Them Up
To really feature your living room's exposed beam, draw more attention to them with mounted lighting. Recessed spot lighting, for example, is a simple and elegant way to draw attention to your beams. For an even distribution of light, position your light fittings at regular distances from one another along the beam. Another approach to take is to install lights at either end of the beam, angling the fittings so they illuminate the wall and create a wash look.
Accessorize with a Skylight
Adding skylights between exposed beams is an excellent way to show them off. Skylights help naturally draw the eyes upward, giving you another excuse to show off your living room's exposed beams. And when you add blinds, you can add more color to complement your ceiling's overall design.
