Homeowners Are Looking for a Unique Skylight Install

Custom and luxury homeowners want a home that makes a statement. Architects and home builders routinely turn to a unique skylight install to make these homeowners happy. The SkyMax skylight maximizes a home’s view of the sky without multiple divisions between the glass. It creates a modern aesthetic without overtaking the design or, in some instances, distracting from the historic architecture. After the SkyMax is installed, many luxury homeowners say that sitting under it is one of their favorite places in the house.

SkyMax Meets the Challenges of a Unique Skylight Install

Homeowners want to bring as much daylight into a home as possible. But, they don’t want their roofline obstructed, and they want to be able to add skylights anywhere in any position. One or both of these requests could be an issue for many other skylights. The SkyMax can meet the challenges of these unique skylight installations.

The SkyMax offers twice the square footage of standard flat glass skylights. This effectively doubles the amount of daylight that can be brought in. SkyMax can be installed on a 2’x4’ curb, giving the entire skylight a profile height of less than six inches above the roof deck. These skylights can also be installed horizontally and vertically almost anywhere on the roof.

Features of the SkyMax Skylight

The SkyMax is one of the single largest panes of glass that VELUX offers. Able to mount on any roof with a pitch up to 60̊, they can span a height or width up to 10 feet. Custom SkyMax skylights can be as large as 35 square feet. SkyMax features an integral gasket called the condensation channel. It prevents air and water from getting into the home while allowing the removal of interior condensation. This eliminates the need for weep holes. For extended durability, the vinyl frame is reinforced with aluminum. The finish is a standard polyester powder coat in VELUX grey.

Laminated double-pane glass comes standard, which building codes require for out-of-reach applications. In the event of breakage, the glass will spiderweb and stay in the frame instead of falling to the floor in shards. There is argon gas between the two panes and a LoĒ3 glazing on the exterior panel. These features help to reduce solar heat gain and aid in energy efficiency.

Optional SkyMax Skylight Upgrades

For homeowners who need a truly unique skylight install for their home, SkyMax offers several optional upgrades.

Custom Sizes

The SkyMax can be manufactured to custom dimensions if the overall area does not exceed 35 square feet. This means these skylights can be made as a 5’x7’, or a 4’x8’, or 5’6”x6’, or any other dimension equal to 35 sq. feet.

Custom Colors

Besides the standard VELUX grey, several different options are available to match a home’s exterior color or roof. Custom finishes include bone white, classic bronze, black, dark bronze matte, and silver matte. For homeowners looking for something truly luxurious and eye-appealing, there is a copper-clad.

Custom Glass

Each skylight is covered in triple-silver-coated low-e glazing that reduces heat gain and UV rays. Glazing color options available include clear, gray, and bronze. Upgrades to the glass are also available. Impact glass is an option that can withstand hail and flying debris. An optional energy-advantage inner pane boosts energy efficiency even more.
