The installation process for a VELUX Sun Tunnel is relatively simple compared to a skylight or roof window. The initial planning and positioning of the Sun Tunnel can take a little time. However, once the homeowner agrees, there are only a few steps to complete the actual installation. Complete Sun Tunnel installation instructions are available online. Here is a simple overview of the steps:

1. Mark the ceiling joists and identify the center of the joists with a nail. 
2. In the attic, identify the place in the roof directly over the nail in the ceiling.
3. Mark the place in the roof with a nail or screw.
4. On the roof, use the boot to mark a hole and cut it in the roof deck. Then, remove shingles around the      upper half of the opening.
5. Install the boot with sealant, then the underlayment, and then reinstall shingles.
6. Attach the gasket to the upper elbow and place it into the boot.
7. In the attic, measure the distance needed for the reflective tube. 
8. On the roof, attach the reflective tube to the upper elbow and place it into the boot. 
9. Install the Sun Tunnel dome or flat glass cover. 
10. In the ceiling, attach the lower elbow to the tube and install the light diffuser.

For someone installing a Sun Tunnel for the first time, this process can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours or longer, depending on the length of the tube. For an experienced roofer or contractor, this time is significantly less. 
Experienced roofers, contractors, and skylight installers can complete a Sun Tunnel installation in as little as 90 minutes. This means they have the potential to install multiple Sun Tunnel skylights across two or more homes in a day.
