Codes and Regulations for VELUX Products

Written by Kat Wiseman | January 10, 2020

Ready to install VELUX skylights? You're going to need some spec, code, and regulation information!

Finding Code Information on Our Site

All the code and regulation information related to VELUX products can be found easily on our site! We'll go ahead and put a handy link to that page here, but in case you ever need to find it in the future, here's how:

  1. Go to veluxusa.com
  2. In the upper left-hand corner, click "Professional"
  3. On the new screen, click "Tools" in the navigation bar at the top
  4. Under "Technical Info," click the "Code Information" link
  5. Voila! VELUX code information arranged by product

If you'd like BIM models, drawings, and specs for any VELUX product instead, when you come to step 4, click "Drawings and specifications" instead of "Code Information."

Codes for VMS

Because of their unique design and installation procedures, VELUX Modular Skylights' size specifications are available as digital handbooks and brochures, either in downloadable PDF or e-book form.

In addition to the technical and electrical specifications for VMS, you can find sub-construction, tender text, installation, maintenance, and warranty PDFs on our website here.

What is an ENERGY STAR® Label?

Something you'll notice on most VELUX standard skylights is an ENERGY STAR® label. But what exactly does this label mean? Developed by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ENERGY STAR® labels indicate the product they're attached to meets certain energy-performance criteria. And because the energy performance of windows, doors, TDDs, and skylights varies by climate, ENERGY STAR®-compliant products are labeled for all US climate zones. Skylights and TDDs do receive a slightly different rating than windows and doors, but most every VELUX standard skylight meets ENERGY STAR® requirements for all US climate zones.

The NFRC and Codes

If you're not familiar with the NFRC, it's time to get acquainted! NFRC stands for National Fenestration Rating Council, and they're a non-profit, public/private organization created by the window, door, and skylight industry.

The NFRC is made up of manufacturers, suppliers, builders, architects, and designers. Also among the NFRC members are specifiers, code officials, and utility and government agencies. As the NFRC, their primary goal is to provide accurate information to measure and compare the energy performance of window, door, or skylight products.

VELUX skylights that are made in the USA and are NFRC-certified are labeled as such. VELUX roof window models GPL, GGL, and GDL, on the other hand, are manufactured in Europe and are not subject to certification by the NFRC.
